LP12 upgrades

An LP12 is not a product you replace. It is one you keep, and change, for as long as you own it — the deck Linn have been building since 1973 and still upgrade forwards, so a Sondek bought in 1980 can take every part on this page.

Three places to start

A complete deck, built and set up here before it goes anywhere. Every one of them can be taken further later, one part at a time, without starting again.

Or change one thing at a time

Linn build the Sondek out of nine subsystems, and every one of them is sold on its own. There is no fixed order and no upgrade you have to buy first. Prices below are the part, and the fitting charge beside it is the bench work — because an LP12 upgrade is a rebuild and a re-set, not a box swap. You pay one fitting charge however many parts you change at once: the deck comes apart once either way.

Decks

The Sondek on its own, before arm, cartridge and power supply.

Plinths and bases

Plinth, base board and finish. Where the deck stops moving.

Sub-chassis

Carries the platter and the arm, and decides how well they ignore each other.

Bearing

One single point at the centre of the whole thing.

Power supplies

Motor control, from the PSU inside a Majik to the Klimax Radikal.

Tonearms

Krane, Arko, Ekos SE.

  • KraneMajikTonearm. Tonearm cable is NOT included.£1,445+ £250 fittingAdd to basket
  • ArkoSelekt7075 aluminium the whole length of the wand, cold-drawn to close tolerance, with a machined headshell, a stainless-steel counterweight to keep inertia down and a single-piece polished through-spindle on a gimbal platform. Simple by design, and the arm Linn built the Kendo to sit in.£3,500+ £250 fittingAdd to basket
  • Ekos SEKlimaxLinn's top tonearm. Machined titanium arm tube, stainless-steel bearing housing, ultra-low-friction bearings on temperature-compensated precision springs, hand assembled. The extended headshell takes almost any cartridge; Linn pairs it with Ekstatik or Kendo.£4,880+ £250 fittingAdd to basket

Cartridges

Moving magnet and moving coil, and the Adikt stylus on its own.

  • KoilThe first moving coil, and the upgrade from the Adikt. Low-mass boron cantilever with a nude microlinear stylus. For a Majik LP12 running into a moving coil phono stage.£880+ £100 fittingAdd to basket
  • KrystalSelektThe middle moving coil. Precision-machined 7075 aluminium body, aluminium tube cantilever, nude Vital fine-line diamond. 0.5 mV at 5 cm/s, tracking 1.5 to 2.0 g. The step most Selekt-level decks take.£1,535+ £100 fittingAdd to basket
  • KendoSelektLinn's high-performance moving coil, below Ekstatik only. Nickel-coated 7075 aluminium body, low-mass boron cantilever, super fine-line stylus. 0.45 mV at 3.54 cm/s, 2.0 g tracking, 12 ohm. Made for the Arko.£3,080+ £100 fittingAdd to basket
  • EkstatikKlimaxFlagship moving coil cartridge.£6,050+ £100 fittingAdd to basket

Phono stages

Uphorik outboard; Urika and Urika II built into the deck.

Tonearm cables

Linn T-Kable as standard. The Chord ladder sits above it.

  • T-Kable (1.2m)Linn's tonearm cable, 1.2 m, RCA or XLR. The right length when the phono stage sits beside the deck.£390+ £50 fittingAdd to basket
  • T-Kable (1.7m)Linn's tonearm cable, 1.7 m, RCA or XLR. The length to choose when the phono stage is across the room, or the deck is on a wall shelf.£463+ £50 fittingAdd to basket
A word about arm cables. Krane does not include one. Linn’s own T‑Kable is the standard lead and it is a good one; the Chord arm leads on each turntable page are the rungs above it, from ClearwayX at £242 to Sarum T. A Klimax LP12 is the exception — the Urika II is inside the deck, so the tonearm terminates on the internal phono stage and only the Sarum T 180° to 2XLR lead applies.

Before you change anything

A good many of the decks we are asked to upgrade do not need a new part yet. They need the suspension setting, the bearing checking and the arm put back where Linn intended. If nobody has been near yours in ten years, start here. It costs less than the smallest upgrade on this page, and it tells you what you are actually listening to before you spend anything.

LP12 set-up

A full service on a deck you did not buy from us. Suspension, bearing, arm height, overhang, azimuth, VTA, tracking force and cartridge loading. We tell you what we find and we fit nothing without asking you first. Linn turntables only.

£250 or £325£250 service only, on a day you bring the deck in to the Linn Room. £325 for the service and in-home set-up, plus the travel contribution for your postcode in Zones 1 to 3 — beyond that, by arrangement.

Cartridge trade‑in

Linn take your old cartridge against a new one. The figures below are what you pay, not the discount. Only upgrades and like‑for‑like replacements are offered, and Linn check the serial number of the cartridge being traded in before anything is agreed — so this one is a phone call, not a checkout.

Kandid is not on Linn’s June 2026 price list but appears in the trade‑in matrix as something you can buy. We are checking that with Linn before quoting it.

Bring it in and listen to it

The honest way to choose an LP12 upgrade is to hear your own deck before and after. Bring it to the Linn Room and we will do exactly that.
